Utility companies sue Bernalillo County pnm

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – PNM, New Mexico Gas Company and Century Link are suing Bernalillo County over franchise fees.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, the utility companies claim the county’s trying to pad its budget with revenue enhancement measures.

The lawsuit tries to block enforcement of the county’s new right-of-way ordinance, requiring utilities to negotiate with the county over fees they pay to bury their links under public rights of way,

The county spends $6.8 million a year maintaining rights of way.
