WIPP creates Facebook page to dispel rumors

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – As investigators try to figure out what caused a radiation leak at the WIPP site, officials have had to create a Facebook page to fight the rumor mill.

The site is tackling reports that Carlsbad and other nearby towns will have to be evacuated, something officials say is simply not true and theories about what caused the leak.

There are also claims that the radiation exposure is worse that being reported.

Officials say they continue to monitor the radiation levels around the site daily and they are at safe levels.

Crews have yet to head into the area where the leak happened to figure out what caused it. Officials are still working out a plan and training workers to deal with what they might encounter.
