New Los Lunas police chief starts Monday

LOS LUNAS, N.M. (KRQE) – Another New Mexico police chief is out of a job and his replacement takes over the reigns Monday.

The mayor of Los Lunas decided not to renew Roy Melnick’s contract. He’s had been police chief in the village since 2006.

The new mayor, Charles Griego, says he wants someone more in line with his own philosophy.

Naithan Gurule, the Los Lunas Police Department spokesperson, will now take over as chief. He’s been with the department for 12 years.
