APS bus driver arrested after driving recklessly

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An APS bus driver is under arrest after the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department says she was driving recklessly with kids on board — while she had drugs in her possession.

Linda Baretto, 51, is now charged with child abuse and drug possession.

BCSD says several 911 calls came in Monday afternoon about the bus in the South Valley near Bridge and La Vega southwest.

“They stated that the bus had cut them off in a reckless manner and was also hitting the brakes without any regard for the students on the bus or other motorists,” said Sgt. Aaron Williamson

Deputies said Baretto admitted to getting in an “altercation” with another driver. That’s when deputies made another discovery.

“Through the investigation deputies discovered she had prescription pills on her person that she did not have a prescription for,” Williamson said. “She was arrested for child abuse as well as possession of dangerous drugs”

BCSD will not say what the drugs were, but said they could have impaired her driving.

Baretto drives a bus for Hererra Bus Company, which APS contracts out. Hererra Bus Company says she’s on unpaid leave and students on her route will have a substitute bus driver.

BCSD says Baretto could face additional charges, but hasn’t said what those charges could be.
