Man accused of stealing $6K in gas

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) –  A man accused of filling up dozens of gas tanks with Bernalillo County gas cards faced a judge Sunday.

About $6,500 worth of gas was stolen from the cards.

Detectives say Nicholas Jones is a former Bernalillo County worker with a history of drug use.

According to the complaint, he admitted to racking up charges more than 120 times.

On Sunday, the judge reduced his bail from $335,000 to $50,000 cash or surety, but Jones still wasn’t satisfied and asked the judge to bring it down even more.

“I’m seeking help with drug abuse with a drug problem that i have,” he said. “My family is willing to help me. It’s just that I cannot afford that much bond.”

The judge refused, but told Jones if his family found a rehab center he could go to he would consider lowering his bond.
