First responders go bald for cancer research

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Monday is St. Patrick’s Day, but Sunday was Saint Baldrick’s.

First responders from around the area pulled together to raise money for children’s cancer research by volunteering to go bald.

“We’ve got individuals, we’ve got firefighters police officers EMS personnel,” said Paul Bearce, deputy chief of Rio Rancho Fire Rescue. “They’ve all stepped up and donated their head and they are all raising money. That’s what it’s all about today.”

This annual event featured family friendly activities – including the chance to climb a fire truck ladder.

This year, they met their goal of raising $40,000.
