Bairstow: ‘It gets better each time’

LAS VEGAS, NEV. (KRQE) – History was made as the Lobos cut down nets for a third straight year as Mountain West Tournament champs, becoming the first team to win three in a row in conference history.

“It’s emotional, but it’s good. It’s good. It’s a long time coming,” said Coach Craig Neal after the game. “I am just happy for the kids.”

It was a roller coaster ride of a season capped off by “We Are the Champions” blaring in Pit West and the Lobos celebrating another conference tournament title.

“It’s big time,” said Lobos center Alex Kirk. “It’s amazing right here. I love our fans, going crazy, I love it. I love to be a Lobo.”

Lobo guard Hugh Greenwood commented on sending the senior players out right.

“We owe it to them,” he said. “It’s been a dynasty, it’s been a legacy for those guys. But you know, we’ve won this one and now we got to start looking forward to the NCAA tournament.”

Lobo senior guard Kendall Williams, who was also taking in the excitement after the game, said “I love it, I love it … it’s better to be lucky than good sometimes.”

And finally, senior forward Cameron Bairstow said “It’s awesome … It just gets better each time.”

The Lobos championship celebration will be short lived as the team now waits to find out who and where they will play in the NCAA Tournament.
