Lobos win 3rd Mountain West title

LAS VEGAS (KRQE) – Despite losing the Mountain West regular season title in the final game of the season versus rival San Diego State University, New Mexico gets pay back and adds a third straight Mountain West Tournament title with a 64-58 win over the Aztecs.

Lobos head coach Craig Neal said the season has been an emotional roller coaster.

“It’s emotional but it’s good, it’s a long time coming and I am just happy for the kids” said Neal.

New Mexico became the first school to win three straight tournament titles (9-0) and remains unbeaten as a 2 seed in the Mountain West Tournament.

With 2:34 left in the game, the Lobos jumped out to a 7 point lead in a game that was tied 10 times but with 26 seconds to play, senior guard Kendall Williams hit a three-pointer sealing the Lobos Mountain West title win.
