SILVER CITY, N.M. (AP) – A part-time municipal judge in southwestern New Mexico has resigned after being accused of misconduct.

The Silver City Sun-News reports that Santa Clara Village Judge Roland Madrid’s Feb. 28 resignation ends the disciplinary case against him but means he cannot again serve as a judge in New Mexico.

Madrid didn’t formally respond to the 30 allegations made against him by the state Judicial Standards Commission on Feb. 4 other than to resign.

However, Madrid’s lawyer, James Foy, says Madrid doesn’t claim he was perfect as a judge.

The allegations include that Madrid failed to hold court sessions some months and improperly closed his court without arranging for a temporary replacement.

Others include that he attempted to use his judicial position to avoid receiving a citation.
