Lea County citizens targeted by new scam

LEA COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Lea County citizens are being targeted by another scam.

The Sheriff’s Office says they’ve received reports from residents that someone is calling claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Department or Civil Process Division informing them they have a warrant.

The caller then asks them to pay a fine.

Investigators say the callers are using information that can be obtained from court websites.

The names being used include Lieutenant Martin and Sergeant Truett.
