ABQ Biopark helps abandoned bird

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A rare new addition is ruffling feathers at the ABQ Biopark Zoo, a tiny bird known as the Socorro Dove.

The breed is now extinct in the wild and only a hundred survive in captivity.

Twenty-five Socorro Doves live at the Biopark where there is a special breeding program to boost the population.

The thing is, Socorro Doves sometimes abandon their little ones so a white dove is serving as its foster mother.

If everything goes well the chick will join the flock this summer.
