LAS VEGAS (KRQE) – The quest for the Lobos third straight Mountain West Tournament title began with a 93-77 win over Fresno State in the quarterfinals on Thursday night.
Fresno State Head Coach Rodney Terry said on Wednesday that stopping the two-headed monster of Cameron Bairstow and Alex Kirk is the key to pulling off the upset, and the ‘dawgs were right. Bairstow and Kirk continue their domination down low against an undersized Bulldog front-court combing for 42 points and 16 rebounds.
The Lobos outscored the Bulldogs in the paint 42-20 and the rest is history. Senior guard Kendall Williams had a monster game scoring 17 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, and 9 assists in the win.
New Mexico shot 56.9 from the field and never trailed in the 16-point victory. This is the 5th straight year the Lobos have made it to the semifinals of the Mountain West tournament.
