ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Albuquerque-based Bueno Chile began restocking grocery stores Thursday with a new green chile product.
In February Bueno issued a voluntary recall on all frozen green chile products processed in 2013 after a test on some uncooked product turned up trace amounts of listeria bacteria. The company said when the green chile was cooked according to directions, there were no signs of the bacteria.
A spokesperson for Bueno said Thursday the company still hasn’t located the source of the listeria bacteria. The New Mexico Department of Health said there have been no recent cases of listeria reported.
In a press release, Bueno Foods said the company is now voluntarily processing green chile under more stringent protocol approved by the FDA. Because of the new processing, Bueno said green chile products now require less cooking time.
Bueno Foods said over the next month all green chile products will be back in stock.
The products have a “new” sticker on them, with a date starting in March 2014.
Bueno Foods said there is enough green chile stockpiled to carry customers through until the new season.
