New concerns surround NM transmission line

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Renewed concern about a transmission line proposed for southern New Mexico.

The line is supposed to improve America’s power grid and cut back on the use of fossil fuel.

New concerns arose after Sun Zia announced plans to build the 500 mile line in an area used for flight training by Holloman Air Force Base and weapons testing at White Sands Missile range.

Congressman Steve Pearce says a recent study on the potential impacts shows that electromagnetic interference could affect certain missile guidance systems if they get within 200 feet.

Pearce is recommending the line be moved farther north or buried underground. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
