LAS VEGAS, NEV. (KRQE) – It’s that time of the year when the Lobos make the trip to sin city for the Mountain West Tournament. Most teams leave empty handed, but the Lobos and their fans hope they will leave with three-of-a-kind.
Lobo fans are beginning to trickle into sin city. Lobo fan Ronald Mourning thinks Coach Neal is doing a great job.
“I feel like he’s going to be a long-term coach for us as far as future success,” he said. “This first year was a great building opportunity for him.”
Not only are the Lobos in Las Vegas, Nev., for a 3-peat as Mountain West Tournament champions, but Neal could also make history. Neal is one win away from surpassing his former boss Steve Alford for the most wins by a first-year head coach with 25.
“He’s doing a great job with the kids being it’s his first year, and it’s nothing but up from here,” says Lobo fan Deloris Herrera.
The Lobos will await the winner of the Fresno State/Air Force match up. It should be smooth sailing, barring any meltdowns. The Lobos are 9-1 versus teams on their side of the bracket.
