Gary King, Linda Lopez stay in race for governor

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Despite dismal showings among state Democrats, Attorney General Gary King and state Sen. Linda Lopez are not dropping their bids to become governor.

Out of five candidates at this weekend’s pre-primary nominating convention, King finished last and Lopez landed in fourth place.

Neither got 20 percent of the vote from delegates needed for an automatic place on the June primary ballot. Both will have to get enough signatures to be on the ballot.

King has thousands more than he needs. Lopez says she’s working to gather the few hundred more she needs.

Howie Morales was the favorite among Democrats, followed by Alan Webber and Lawrence Rael, who will both be on the ballot.

The winner of the June primary will face off against republican Gov. Susana Martinez. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
