ABQ Mayor names new fire chief

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Albuquerque has a new fire chief.

David Downey has been with Albuquerque Fire Department for two decades and has spent that past two months working as interim chief.

The mayor says Downey’s goals for the department are in line with his and says he was impressed by Downey’s leadership while he served in the interim.

“We have a great fire department and my top priority is always going to be the safety of our firefighters. It’s the utmost importance to me,” AFD Chief David Downey said.

Downey will earn $125,000 a year.

Former chief James Breen announced he was retiring last year.
