Torrance County manager heads to trial

TORRANCE COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – It looks like the Torrance County manager and her friend are heading to trial on fraud, conspiracy and other charges.

A judge has ruled there is enough evidence against Joy Ansley and her contractor friend and alleged lover Chris Valdez to take the case to the next level.

The pair is accused of conspiring to steer county construction jobs Valdez’s way, then overcharging the county for those jobs.

In one job, they’re accused of charging about eight times the going rate for supplies.

Both Ansley and Valdez are facing 10 counts.

Ansley is still the county manager. The commission has stood behind her, saying she’s innocent until proven guilty.
