New scheme involves fake DEA agents

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The DEA is warning New Mexicans about a scheme that has fake DEA agents asking for money.

Drug Enforcement Administration officials say someone is calling people who’ve purchased prescription drugs on the Internet or by phone telling them they’ve broken the law.

They then ask the victim for private information and demand they pay a fine.

The DEA says an agent will never demand money from residents for any reason. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
