Lawsuit against APD, city goes to trial Monday

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A family’s lawsuit against the Albuquerque Police Department and the City of Albuquerque for a fatal officer-involved shooting is set to go to trial Monday.

Officers shot and killed Christopher Torres in April of 2011 at the family home in Taylor Ranch while serving an arrest warrant for an alleged road rage incident.

APD says Torres fought detectives and tried to grab one of their guns.

The District Attorney deemed the shooting justified, but Torres’ family disputes that saying APD should have known their son had mental health issues.
