Background checks for paramedics signed to law

SANTA FE, NM (KRQE) Governor Susana Martinez has signed a new law requiring paramedics and other EMS providers to go through criminal background checks in New Mexico.

The senate bill mandates the background checks be done before the state licenses an applicant or renews a license for paramedics or EMT’s.

Supporters of the measure say some large cities already have a similar law.

The requirements for the background checks start July 1, 2014. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
