State Police investigate major I-40 crash

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – New Mexico State Police are investigating a crash that shutdown Interstate 40 Friday night.

According to NMSP, an officer observed the crash at approximately 10:43 p.m. on I-40 westbound near 6th Street.

The two-vehicle wreck sent one person to UNM Hospital in extreme critical condition. His identity has not been released however KRQE News 13 has learned that the victim is an Albuquerque Aviation Police officer.

NMSP said alcohol was a factor in the collision and they have charged 32-year-old Michelle Rivera with great bodily harm by vehicle, aggravated DWI and reckless driving.

Westbound Interstate 40 was shut down for several hours for investigation. I-40 was reopened early Saturday morning.
