APD releases video of officer involved shooting

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department has released lapel cam video of a controversial Albuquerque shooting.

In December 2013 three APD officers shot Shaine Sherrill near Wyoming and Indian school.

They were responding to a domestic call from a woman claiming Sherrill was hitting her car with his backpack.

On lapel cam you can see an officer kick away Sherrill’s knife.

APD says Sherrill raised his arm and pointed either that knife or a brake pad at police and officers believed it was a gun.

During a domestic violence call a year earlier, Sherrill had told officers he wanted to be shot and killed by police.

Sherrill who has a lengthy criminal background has filed a lawsuit against the city for the shooting.

APD says it can’t comment on the case until Monday because the chief is out of town.
