USDA: Beef recall larger than suspected

Meat Labeling

PETALUMA, Calif (KRQE) – The USDA now believes a beef recall is much larger than first suspected.

The federal agency thinks tainted beef from a California-based meat producer may have reached 36 states and Guam.

It was thought the contaminated product had been contained to just six states.

Thousands of additional retailers including large grocery chains received those beef products from Rancho Feeding Corporation.

The company recalled more than eight million pounds of meat in mid-February because the beef may have come from diseased cattle.
