Teen indicted for 12-year-old’s murder

Teen to be tried as adult in 12-year-old's murder case

MEADOW LAKE, N.M. (KRQE) – A 15-year-old Meadow Lake boy accused of killing his 12-year-old friend has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.

Brandon Villalobos is accused of killing Alex Madrid and leaving his body under a mattress in a Meadow Lake field.

On Friday, prosecutors announced Villalobos would be charged as an adult, even though his attorney and mother say he is developmentally delayed and doesn’t understand what is going on.

Villalobos was with 12-year-old Alex Madrid the night Madrid went missing in February. Investigators said he admitted to hitting the boy once during an argument when Madrid said something about Villalobos’ 4-month-old baby.
