NM teen sentenced for killing foster parent

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – One of two teens who killed her foster mother is going to prison.

Alexis shields, 17, was ordered to serve 13 years behind bars minus the three years she’s already served.

Shields was 15 when she smothered Evelyn Miranda in her San Patricio home in 2011 just days after being placed in the home.

She then stole Miranda’s car, cell phone and computer.

Shields and her co-defendant, Desiree Linares, were later caught at a friend’s house in Carlsbad.

Shields pleaded guilty in December to first degree murder.

Linares is still awaiting trial in the case.
