ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – New Mexico’s congressional leaders sent a letter to Tesla trying to persuade it to pick New Mexico for its new Gigafactory.
They say workers here are the most skilled, well-trained, and educated people in the country.
They also referred to the work being done at Sandia and Los Alamos National Labs and pointed out the state’s high quality schools including New Mexico Tech, UNM and New Mexico State.
New Mexico, along with Nevada, Arizona and Texas are being considered for Tesla’s new factory.
It would supply lithium-ion batteries to the electric car maker’s California assembly plant.
Tesla would hire about 6,500 employees.
