Former PRC employee wins lawsuit over firing

SANTA FE (KRQE) – A Santa Fe jury has awarded a former state employee $110,000 for emotional distress.

Maurice Bonal Jr., a former IT chief for the PRC, filed a lawsuit claiming he was fired in 2010 out of retaliation.

Bonal said it happened after he reported employees were using state computers to visit adult porn sites and other websites during work time.

The jury ruled Wednesday that Bonal’s firing violated a state law that protects whistleblowers.

PRC lawyers denied the allegations.
