Gov. Martinez signs new bills

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Governor Martinez signed two more bills into law Wednesday.

The first, improves the benefits provided to family members of firefighters who die in the line of duty.

Under the law, the surviving spouse or children of the firefighter would receive $250,000 from the state rather than $50,000.

The governor also signed the Breakfast after the Bell measure.

This new bill will require schools in high poverty areas to provide free breakfast to students after their school day starts. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
