Burglary suspect arrested after short chase

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Detectives arrested a woman Wednesday who was sought for defrauding some elderly people in Albuquerque and had several warrants for her arrest, according to APD.

Officer Daren J. DeAguero said the woman, Ashley Marie Martinez, 26, was followed by detectives after she left a store Wednesday night.

When detectives attempted to pull her over at a fast food restaurant, she allegedly rammed into the police car and tried to flee, DeAguero said. Police say she then left her car on the 1000 block of Alta Monte and began running.

According to police, a K-9 was able to find Martinez, who surrendered. She was booked on charges of burglary, narcotics, probation violation, and battery on a police officer.

Last week, police said they were looking for a woman who had been knocking on doors of homes where elderly people live and asking to use their phones. Police say once inside, the woman would allegedly steal homeowners’ purses or wallets. The suspect in those cases is Martinez.
