Councilors to vote on ‘Cops’ resolution

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The fight over whether the TV show “Cops” should come back to Albuquerque will get a lot of attention Monday night at city councilors.

Councilors Don Harris and Ken Sanchez are proposing a resolution to try to keep the show out of town.

The resolution argues that the city’s past experiences with the show created a negative image of Albuquerque.

Councilors are scheduled to vote on the resolution Monday.

Council President Ken Sanchez says he has invited the sheriff to explain his reasoning for allowing the show to return.

No word on whether Sheriff Dan Houston plans to attend.

He has said in the past that there’s never been any data to prove the show “Cops” hurt the city’s economic interests. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
