Out of bounds skier found safe

DURANGO, Colo (KRQE) – A cold, exhausted skier is lucky to be alive after going missing for nearly a day in the mountains of Colorado.

Authorities say 42-year-old Alex Magennis was found Saturday morning near a remote part of Hermosa Creek drainage during a major snow storm by search and rescue.

On Friday Magennis texted his wife to say that he had skied in the out of bounds area and planned to ski to another area for safety.

His wife then called Ski Patrol whom immediately started their search for him.

Several attempts later, the patrol team finally caught up with Magennis at around 11:30 this morning.
