NM Air National Guard redesignates fighter wing

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The former New Mexico Fighting Tacos are now a special operations wing

The New Mexico Air National Guard hosted the official redesignation of the former 150th fighter wing to the 150th special operations wing Saturday morning.

Part of the wing’s new job will be to train mission ready aircrews in special operations and personnel recovery.

A few years ago, the crew containing approximately 900 full and part-time reservists were in limbo waiting for a mission after their fighter jets were retired.

The 150 SOW is the second Special Operations Wing in the entire Air National Guard.

The New Mexico Air National Guard has been a fighter wing since 1974.
