ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – There’s a big push to bring jobs to southeastern New mexico with a new kind of facility.
Roswell and the towns surrounding it are joining forces to bring in a company that can train drone pilots across the county in Chavez County.
The company, Strategic Aerospace International, already has the curriculum at 48 different colleges and universities. The problem is finding airspace to actually fly these drones. That’s where Roswell comes in.
The plan is to utilize some 3 million acres surrounding the Roswell Airport.
And students can fly the aircraft from across the country.
But there will have to be people in Roswell to keep those aircraft operable.
That presents huge job opportunities in New Mexico.
Roswell and surrounding towns are working with Strategic Aerospace to work out the details.
The next big step is getting approval from the FAA. They’re hoping that will just take a few months.
