Police Oversight Commission settles lawsuit

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An activist known for his constant criticism of APD has a settled a lawsuit against the city commission that’s supposed to police the police department.

Andres Valdez was booted from a Police Oversight Commission meeting a year and a half ago when he tried to call out the chairwoman during public comment.

That chairwoman, Linda Martinez, is tied to the Fraternal Order of Police. Valdez thought that was a huge conflict of interest.

“They now allow the public to speak freely. They’ve expanded the amount of time the public can speak,” said Valdez.

Valdez says Martinez and another POC member settled with him for more than $10,000. Martinez no longer serves on he POC.
