Veteran Service Bill blocked in Senate

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Senate Republicans have blocked a bill that would help the nation’s 22 million veterans.

Republicans complained the bill was too expensive.

The $21 billion measure would do everything from restoring the cost of living increase for future military retirees to allowing more veterans to get in-state college tuition and providing fertility treatments for wounded troops.

New Mexico Senator Tom Udall says he’s disappointed with the vote and will continue to push for other measures to help our veterans. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
