Plastic bags banned in SF businesses

SANTA FE (KRQE) – A plastic bag ban in Santa Fe went into effect Thursday following official approval from the City Council on Wednesday night.

Under the law, businesses will not be able to provide shoppers with plastic bags.

Businesses caught violating the ban would be cited and fined up to $99.

Businesses can even have points deducted from their business license if they continue to ignore the law and eventually lose it.

Restaurants and bags for produce and bulk items are exempt.

Businesses will be given a 30-day grace period before fines are handed out.
