Bird strike stops Sunport flight

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A bird strike forced a Southwest Airlines plane leaving the Albuquerque Sunport to turn back.

Flight 155 to Phoenix was departing when crew members heard a bang shortly after takeoff.

The plane safely landed back at the Sunport.

It was inspected and a Sunport spokesperson said the pilot believes the bang was from a bird strike that created a small dent below the cockpit.

The plane is out of commission for the time being.

All 126 passengers and five crew members were put on another flight. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
