Restaurant donates $16K to sheriff’s office

BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Thanks to a generous donation, the Bernallilo County Sheriff’s Office got some much-needed new gear Wednesday.

Firehouse Subs donated more than $16,000 to buy 30 active shooter armor kits.

The restaurant, which was established by two firefighters in 2005, makes it a habit to raise money for first responders.

“Again, this is kind of public private partnership that increases the protection of our deputies and increases the protection of the citizens of our communities,” said Cpt. Edward Mims, commander for the sheriff’s department.

The foundation collects donations nationwide and has given $8.3 million in 39 states.
