ABQ bomb maker to serve 3 years in prison

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A man who had an obsession with explosives was sentenced Tuesday for making bombs and shipping them across state lines.

Police arrested Douglas Markey in 2011 after he lost a few fingers sling-shooting bombs in a Colorado canyon.

Then, a year later, he was arrested in Albuquerque when police say he rigged an Albuquerque woman’s Taser so it would burst into flames.

Police found more than a dozen active bombs inside his northeast heights apartment.

On Tuesday, he was sentenced to nearly three and a half years behind bars, three years supervised release, and a $10,000 fine.

He had faced 10 years in prison.
