Animal shelter receives food donations after theft

ESPANOLA N.M. (KRQE) – A New Mexico animal shelter says it has improved its security after thieves stole 400 pounds of dog food.

It happened last week at the Espanola Valley Humane Society.

Someone broke into an outdoor shed where the shelters stores the food they give to pet owners in need.

According to the shelter’s Facebook page, the community came forward and donated more than 400 pounds of dog.

The shelter was also victim to theft back in December when someone stole 1,000 pounds of food. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
