ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) –
CYFD says the legislature’s failure to pass a measure clarifying who is obligated to report child abuse is putting kids across the state at risk.
The court of appeals recently ruled the state’s law is unclear on exactly who has that responsibility.
CYFD and the governor wanted lawmakers to leave no doubt that anyone who sees or suspects child abuse must report it.
Some bills that would have addressed the issue failed during the session.
The state supreme court has agreed to review its ruling, but it’s not clear when that might happen.
