Jury deliberations begin in Santiago trial

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Jury deliberations began Friday morning in the double murder trial of a former mortgage handler accused of killing his clients.

The jury has recessed and will return Monday.

Ronald Santiago did not take the stand in his own defense.

He’s accused shooting Greg and Bernadette Ohlemacher to death in their Albuquerque home in 2005.

In closing arguments, prosecutors say Santiago planned the attack on the couple after they suspected something wasn’t right about their mortgage deal.

The defense however has been zeroing in the Ohlemacher’s daughter Rene, pointing out that her lie-detector test was inconclusive and that she spoke about hating her parents in her journal.
