Fatal DWI crash suspect waives first appearance

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A man accused of driving drunk and killing a Belen father, and seriously injuring his little girl, waived his first appearance in court Friday.

Repeat drunk driver Jacob Williams is charged with vehicular homicide for the death of Daniel Sanchez.

He was riding his motorcycle south of Belen last month when Williams ran right into him and his 11-year-old daughter, Magen. She was left with a broken leg, but survived.

Because Sanchez is the brother of District Court Judge William Sanchez, all the judges in the district have been recused along with the 13th Judicial District attorney’s office.

Judge Charlie Brown of Albuquerque has now been assigned to the case.
