ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The battle between the state and a New Mexico ranch for troubled teens appears to be over.
Tierra Blanca Youth Ranch settled its lawsuit against the Children, Youth and Families Department.
The settlement allows the state access to Tierra Blanca’s residents and files. The ranch has also agreed to notify the state in cases where a resident is injured or may be in danger.
The ranch says it will no longer use physical restraints to protect residents from themselves. Instead, they will use a supervised isolation room to keep an out-of-control youth and others safe.
CYFD has agreed to not seek any sanctions against the ranch based on its previous investigations.
Tierra Blanca Ranch sued CYFD last year to challenge CYFD’s investigation into abuse allegations. The ranch was seeking a court ruling over whether it had rightful custody of the teens.
