Major battery factory may come to NM

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Hard to tell how serious it is, but a buzz is building about a deal that could be an economic game changer for New Mexico.

Reports say the Tesla electric car company is considering this state for a mega factory to make batteries.

The plant would cost $2 billion to build and employ 2,000 workers.

An equities research firm in California last week reported that it would likely be built in New Mexico.

Tesla is only saying there will be more information soon.

We’ve been down this road before with Tesla.

In 2007, the company announced it would build its electric sedans on Albuquerque’s Westside, but they bailed out when California offered a better deal.
