CEDAR CREST, N.M. (KRQE) – Firefighters were quick to put out six small fires in the East Mountains on Wednesday, but now they’re looking for the person who set them.
The fires were near La Madera road and Vista Bonita, which is northwest of Cedar Crest.
Evidence at the scene shows they were set by fireworks.
With the dry conditions, firefighters are perplexed how someone could be so careless.
“That little bit of moisture we did get still hasn’t brought us up to the point to where we’re out of the drought. We’re still in the exceptional drought. Fields are extremely dry. With a little bit of wind, fires can spread real quickly,” said Fire Marshal Chris Gober.
Anyone with information about those responsible are asked to call the Bernalillo County Fire Department.
