UNM buys land for athletic facility parking

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – UNM has finally closed the deal on a big chunk of land it has wanted for years to help its athletic facilities.

The university just settled a court case for $1.2 million to buy up a few acres of land along Sunshine Terrace.

UNM now owns 50 of the 59 lots on the road which is just south of the softball field along university.

The land was originally meant for homes, but it sat vacant for decades.

UNM says it’s still working on buying out the nine remaining, privately owned lots.

Eventually, the university wants to pave the dirt lot for parking.
