Texting while driving bill head to Gov.'s desk

SANTA FE (KRQE) – It looks like New Mexico is about to become the 42nd state in the country to ban texting while driving.

The House passed the ban Tuesday. Now it goes to the governor’s desk. She’s been in favor of the ban.

The fines would be $25 the first time and $50 every time after that.

In case you’re wondering, only 12 states ban talking on a hand-held cellphone – New Mexico isn’t one of them.
