Man shot by police faces assault charges

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – The man shot and wounded by a Roswell police officer last week is out of the hospital and is now facing charges.

Police say Alonzo Perez, 34, is charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer and aggravated assault against a household member.

Last Thursday, police say Perez charged at a woman and her two young children with a knife.

Officers arrived after a dramatic 911 call from a pregnant woman inside the home during the incident.

Perez was shot by an officer after the officer’s stun gun didn’t stop him. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
